Real Wedding: Alcazar
What do you get when you mix a group of remarkable vendors, pair them with a balmy Palm Springs wedding, and add a fun, creative couple? You get magic.
Hotel Alcazar in Palm Springs provided the perfect location. The bride and groom were able to hold their rehearsal dinner on property at the delicious restaurant, Birba. The hotel was all-around perfection – featuring enough rooms to reserve for the wedding party and guests, the perfect ceremony space, and a poolside that was just right for dinner and late-night dancing.
We didn’t want to create anything that was theme-orientated, and instead opted for a layering of styles, traditions, and heritages. At first, designing the ceremony area proved to be a little difficult, as there were four mesquite trees set in the middle of the patio. I can’t tell you how many layouts we made, with the assistance of Kerri of LVL, trying to make it work. While doing our final walk-through of the venue, we had the “aha” moment of centering a Chuppa on the patio and using the trees as natural aisle breaks that could also double as extra seating! This ceremony in the square formation also allowed every parent and special guest to have a seat of honor – which was important for this big, blended family.
The ghost chairs were a natural choice when paired with the Found Vintage linen benches and gorgeous antique rugs really created a softened space. Simple natural florals and grasses were the perfect compliment to the setting.
For the reception design, the bride didn’t want heavy linens to overpower the area, but instead opted for a very organic-looking space. To create this feel, we brought in long, square wood tables from both Found and Signature Party Rentals then adorned them with antique lace table runners and hem stitched Irish linen napkins. Laverty designed the perfect floral schemes of towering vases of baby’s breath mixed with low arrangements of peonies and roses, all set in an eclectic mix of containers and trays. It was the carefully curated mix of casual and elegant items that provided a sophisticated, bohemian look. We didn’t want to tip over into what Laverty calls the “grandma’s garage sale” look.
Amber Lighting strung beautiful Italian market lights over the pool, which also had the lace pattern from the tables projected on to it, creating a gorgeous showstopper as the sun set.
The party continued long after dinner was concluded. We transformed the ceremony area into a Moroccan lounge by reusing the rugs and benches from the ceremony, and adding low trays, poufs to sit on, and vintage chests overflowing with goodies and florals. One of my favorite elements was the Amber Lighting Edison bulbs hanging from the mesquite trees. The beautiful lighting creating a fun atmosphere that only got better as the wore on.
